Blades Tier List

Sophia’s swords in Resonance: A Plague Tale Legacy are collectables with a perk, not RPG rarities. The base game has eight. The Heritage Pack adds a ninth, the Minoan Sword (Hero’s Blade). You find them in story beats and in hero graves off the critical path. This page ranks the idea of each perk, then names the launch blades we can pin to chapters.

Pickup routing is on collectibles. Spend points still happen on skills. How to swing the thing is on combat.

How a blade is different from a charm

Charms stack forever. Blades replace each other as your active sword perk. You can and should swap when the next room is shields, archers, or a single elite. There is no upgrade tree on the steel itself. The skill tree is separate.

IGN’s preview summary is still the right frame: one blade might add bleed at the end of a combo, another a piercing attack. That is a room-level choice, not a build-level religion.

S and A — use these when you have them

Khopesh (Chapter 7). Mid-to-late pickup with a distinctive silhouette and a perk that shows up in mixed packs. If you skipped the grave, go back via chapter select after the story; do not skip it on a live combat run.

Kopis (Chapter 4). Arrives when trials and denser fights begin. A Chapter 4 sword is the first one that feels like a loadout instead of a tutorial stick.

Sica (Chapter 6). Tied to a bull-pillar grave during What Lies Beneath. You are often alone in this chapter. A perk that helps single-target or tight corridors is worth the detour.

Heritage Minoan Sword. Pre-order / Heritage Pack. Cosmetic-plus-perk. It is S if you own it at Chapter 1, irrelevant if you do not. See Heritage Pack. It does not gate trophies that name the eight base blades.

B — always pick up, swap as needed

Falchion (Chapter 2). Your first “real” sword before the church climb. It retires the Rusty Sword for Venice. Keep it until Kopis unless a later perk clearly counters a room.

Rusty Sword (Chapter 1). Unmissable story blade. Tutorial steel. Do not replay Chapter 1 to “upgrade” it; just progress.

Remaining base blades sit in later graves (Chapters 9–10 still list a blade each on IGN’s table). Treat any unnamed grave the same: leave the path, loot, read the perk text, equip if it beats what you are holding for the next arena.

C — still collect for trophies

Any duplicate-feeling perk that overlaps kick stun or charged dagger bleed is C for combat and mandatory for Plunderer / Adaptable. The trophy cares that you found the grave, not that you main the sword.

Practical swap rules

Shield rooms: prefer pierce or guard-break adjacent perks, and kick anyway. Archer rooms: your charm Beads matter more than the blade; keep a fast combo sword. Elite / captain rooms: bleed or charged-dagger synergy. Dark chase halls: ignore the sword, run to lanterns, then read puzzles if a door is a light lock instead of a fight.

Do not sell or dismantle. There is no vendor. Do not spend Resonance Points on a blade; points only buy skills. If a menu screen makes a sword look like a skill, you are in the wrong tab. Skills are six named techniques such as Echo’s Return and Bullbreaker Kick.

If you only loot one extra grave on a blind run, loot Chapter 7’s Khopesh and Chapter 4’s Kopis. Then finish the set after credits with chapter select while you mop artefacts on the collectibles route.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Quick answers to the most common questions.

How many swords are there?

Eight in the base game, nine with the Heritage Pack Minoan Sword. Chapter 1 and 2 blades are story-given.

Can I miss a blade forever?

No. Chapter select restores graves. Resonance Points are the missable resource, not swords.

Does the best blade beat skills?

No. A mastery on dodge or parry moves the needle more than swapping steel. Rank skills on the skills page first.

Is the Heritage sword required?

No. It is a pre-order extra. The campaign and blade trophies are designed around the eight base weapons.
